John Lane, a prominent Brazilian entomologist known for his work on Neotropical mosquitoes, died suddenly of a heart attack in January 1963 at the age of 57. Lane received his early scientific training in Brazil and later studied at Cornell University in the U.S. He published two volumes on the Neotropical Culicidae in 1953 and had completed a third volume on mosquito biology prior to his death.
