Polygonal faults have been mapped in chalk units of the Late Cretaceous Tor Formation at the Tyra Field in the Danish North Sea using 3D seismic data. The faults form pentagonal and hexagonal patterns hundreds of meters to over a kilometer wide. They do not extend into the overlying Ekofisk Formation reservoir. The faults may have formed due to doming and extension related to inversion tectonics in the area. They could have acted as pathways for vertically migrating hydrocarbons.
