The nebular theory proposes that the solar system formed from a giant cloud of gas and dust called a nebula. As the cloud collapsed due to gravity, it spun faster and formed a disk with the sun at the center. In the disk, dust and grains collided and stuck together, growing into planetesimals and eventually planets.
