This report summarizes work done at Ohio State University to model the mechanical performance of die casting dies through finite element analysis. A case study was performed with an industrial partner to analyze why a production die began flashing severely after being moved to a larger machine. Simulations of different die support setups matched observed flash locations and flash severity. Laboratory experiments also measured contact pressure between a die and machine platens to validate pressure prediction
