Léonin was a 12th century French composer who was the first to develop polyphonic organum. He composed the Magnus Liber, considered the first significant work of polyphonic music, which introduced rhythmic modes and notation. Little is known about Léonin beyond what is mentioned in writings by his student Anonymous IV.
