What is Arrival of Christianity in the Philippines about?

Christianity was first introduced to the Philippines in the 16th century when Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived in Cebu in 1521. Magellan celebrated the first mass and planted a cross, converting local ruler Rajah Humabon and 800 subjects. This established the first Christian community in the Philippines. The image of the Infant Jesus or Santo Niño that Magellan gifted to the queen became an important symbol of faith in the country.
