What is Zuse about?

Konrad Zuse developed Plankalkül, one of the earliest high-level programming languages, between 1936-1945 to program his electromechanical Z4 computer. Plankalkül supported numeric types, arrays, records, iterative and selection statements. It was ahead of its time but not published until 1972. Early computers in the late 1940s and 1950s were difficult to program due to limitations of the hardware and lack of high-level languages or assemblers, requiring programming directly in machine code.
