What is Alkaline Phosphate Waste for AMD Control about?

This study evaluates the use of alkaline phosphate waste (APW) from a nearby phosphate mine to mitigate acidic mine drainage (AMD) produced by the abandoned Kettara mine in Morocco. Laboratory tests showed that adding APW significantly reduced acidity and metal concentrations in leachates from Kettara tailings. The findings suggest that APW could effectively neutralize AMD and stabilize the environmental impact of the mine waste.
