This study investigates the potential causal association between smoking and alcoholism as risk factors for papillitis, an inflammation of the optic nerve. The results indicate that neither smoking (OR = 1.60, p > 0.05) nor alcoholism (OR = 1.19, p > 0.05) showed statistically significant associations with papillitis in the studied population. Therefore, smoking and alcoholism are not considered direct risk factors for developing papillitis.
