What is Understanding Structural Functionalism about?

This document discusses dominant approaches in social sciences. It introduces structural functionalism, a framework that sees society as a complex system whose parts work together for stability. It describes three types of cognitive interests, two levels of analysis, and four functional imperatives. Structural functionalism views social structures as having social functions that contribute to social equilibrium, though it was criticized for its inability to explain social change and inequality.
