Plato was a Greek philosopher born in 428-427 BCE in Athens to an aristocratic family. He was taught by prominent educators as a child and sought to develop a comprehensive philosophical system. His theory of forms asserts that the physical world is an imperfect reflection of a higher spiritual realm of ideal forms.
