What is Fracture properties of a high strength aluminium alloy/ Les caractéristiques de rupture de Duralumin/ Brucheigenschaften einer hochfesten Aluminiumlegierung about?

The basis for this work forms the presentation of experimental evidence on the correlation of various methods recently developed for the testing of the fracture toughness parameter K,.. The most suitable technique is adopted and the toughness evaluated covering a range of temperatures which are of particular interest in typical engineering applications. The results are examined in the light of linear elastic fracture mechanics. It is shown that by means of a three-point bend test performed on a Charpy type specimen provided with a fatigue crack a fracture toughness parameter can be derived. Influence of the strain rate on fracture and its implications arising for certain technical problems are investigated in an instrumented impact test. Effects of the orientation, particularly in the transverse direction are then evaluated and considered for the design applications. A connection with some metallurgical factors is also indicated. ## Resume Cette etude pr&sente l'Evidence experimentale sur la corr&lation entre les m&thodes variees pour l'&Evaluation du parametre de la resilience K,..
