This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the impact of subgingival periodontal therapy on glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The analysis of 12 randomized controlled trials indicated that such therapy significantly reduced glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels by 0.29% after six months. The findings suggest that subgingival periodontal therapy may serve as an effective non-pharmacological treatment to improve glycaemic control in T2DM patients with periodontitis.
