(from preface)Volume 49 of Advances in Heterocyclic Chemistry contains five chapters. Professors M. Tiller and B. Stanovnik of the University of Ljubljana, Yugoslavia cover the progress in pyridazine chemistry since 1979, the date of their previous publication in Volume 24 of Advances.Professor Vorbruggen of Berlin has contributed a survey of the amination of nitrogen heterocycles, which deals particularly with aminations in which an ami no group replaces some other functionality on the heterocyclic ring. Thus, this review complements our recent review in Volume 44 dealing with the Tschitschibabin reaction, in which a hydrogen atom on the heterocyclic ring is replaced by an amino group.The other three chapters in the present volume all deal with bicyclic heterocycles. Dr. H. K. Pujari of Kurukshetra University in India describes condensed 4-thiazolidinones, and Professor M. A. E. Shaban and A. Z. Nasr of Alexandria University in Egypt survey the synthesis of condensed 1,2,4-triazolo heterocycles. Finally, Professor T. A.
