What is Hassan Fathy about?

Hassan Fathy designed New Gourna village as self-help housing for Egyptian peasants using traditional mud brick construction. The project aimed to provide affordable housing while reviving Egyptian architectural traditions. However, the New Gourna experiment ultimately failed to be completed due to lack of funds and political instability in Egypt. Fathy constructed around 80 houses and some public buildings, but no residents permanently resettled there.
