What is Complete Sumerian Wikibook and Lexicon about?
Sumerian grammar is a complicated topic. Whenever you have a language that has absolutely no native speakers, not a whole lot of source material, and a long tradition of being written by people who didn't even speak it as a first language, you're going to have issues. All that being said, a few brave grammarians have put together a reasonably consistent and sensible grammar of this long forgotten language, and that's really all we can hope to do in this grammar. This idea of having to mix detective work with linguistics is definitely an enjoyable challenge to any student. The Sumerian language was used from at least 5000 years ago until at least 2500 years ago. Needless to say, the language underwent a lot of changes during that period, and even after its active life it was used as a literary and official language by other cultures.
