This document examines the effectiveness of financial audits of banks in Bangladesh. The audited financial statements of 14 sample banks were analyzed. Seven of the banks were found to have overstated their profits in their financial statements, calling into question the effectiveness of the bank audits. The scope of bank audits in Bangladesh is also examined to determine if audits are adequately verifying financial information according to auditing standards and identifying issues like overstated profits.
