Cab Calloway was an American jazz singer and bandleader known for his energetic scat singing. He led one of the most popular big bands from the 1930s through the 1940s. Calloway found early success performing at the Cotton Club in Harlem and recorded many hit songs including "Minnie the Moocher." He appeared in films and on radio, helping to break the color barrier. Though his band broke up due to financial issues, Calloway continued performing on stage and television until his death in 1994 at age 86.
