The heart is a hollow, four-chambered organ located in the mediastinum between the lungs that pumps blood through two circulatory loops. It is about the size of a clenched fist and weighs approximately 255 grams for women and 310 grams for men. The right side pumps blood to the lungs for gas exchange through the pulmonary circulation while the left side pumps oxygenated blood from the lungs through the body in the systemic circulation.
