1) Santa Josefa, Agusan del Sur was originally an unsettled wilderness inhabited by native tribes before Spanish conquest in the 16th century. 2) The first settlers arrived in 1946 from the Visayan Islands and helped establish the town of Poblacion, led by pioneers like Primo Quijada. 3) In the 1940s, Commissioner Teofisto Guingona officially proclaimed the place Santa Josefa, naming it after his wife Josefa Guingona.
