Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare but deadly cancer that arises from the bile ducts. It tends to affect older individuals, especially those with risk factors like primary sclerosing cholangitis. On imaging, cholangiocarcinomas appear as masses or thickening of bile duct walls. The prognosis is generally poor even after surgical resection, as the cancer often spreads locally and metastasizes early. The best chance of survival is if the tumor can be completely removed with surgery.
