Understanding Allergy Types and Mechanisms by jnsengupta is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Type I hypersensitivity reactions, commonly known as allergies, are mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies and mast cells. Allergens are antigens that stimulate an IgE response, leading to production of allergen-specific IgE. This IgE binds to high-affinity receptors on mast cells. When the allergen cross-links IgE on mast cells again, it causes the cells to degranulate and release inflammatory mediators like histamine. Histamine causes local symptoms of allergy by acting on receptors in tissues. Gen
