About this document
Structure and Function of Optical Fiber by Abhinav Alok is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Fiber optics transmit light signals over long distances using thin strands of glass or plastic called optical fibers. Optical fibers consist of a core surrounded by cladding material and an outer protective jacket. Total internal reflection within the core guides light down the fiber with little loss of signal strength. There are two main types of optical fibers - single-mode fibers which only allow one light signal and multimode fibers which allow multiple light signals to propagate simultaneously. Factors
