What is Hole in the Heart : a Mystery about?

"The brilliant but ruthless Fausto has babies for sale. Carmen and Richard adopt one, and the ensuing squall of abduction, extortion, murder and betrayal blows from the mists of the Monterey Peninsula to muggy Mazatlan. A pig and a duck were parked on the shoulder of a country road, getting ready. An overgrown hedge hid them from the house with the daycare down the the dirt drive. Fausto was ready -- a pig mask and blue rubber gloves -- and Socorro was almost ready. She had her duck mask on and was working her fingers into a pair of pink dishwasher gloves. Fausto watched her and made some oinking sounds. She scowled behind her rubber mask, 'You never said nothing about this. Just bring the babies north, collect a little commission, That's all.' He opened his aluminum case and took out a .22. 'We're collecting the commission.'" -- From back cover
