About this document
Understanding Katharometer Functionality by Varun Kumar is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The katharometer is a thermal conductivity detector used in gas chromatography. It works by comparing the rate of heat loss from heating coils in two parallel tubes - one containing a reference gas and the other containing the gas mixture being analyzed. Differences in the thermal conductivity of the gases cause differences in heat loss from the coils, which can be measured as resistance changes in a bridge circuit. The katharometer responds to differences in the molecular weights and thermal conductivities
