What is PEDF Gene Therapy for Pancreatic Cancer about?

This study investigated whether overexpression of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) could inhibit human pancreatic cancer growth. Human pancreatic cancer cell lines were genetically modified to overexpress PEDF and tested in mouse models. Mice with tumors formed from PEDF-overexpressing cancer cells had significantly smaller tumors than control mice. Intratumoral injection of a lentivirus vector encoding PEDF also significantly inhibited tumor growth by decreasing blood vessel formation in the tumors
