This volume of collected papers edited by Nonaka and Teece advances the following basic themes: (1) knowledge assets now form the basis of competitive advantage among global firms; (2) knowledge management involves much more than the development and deployment of new IT-based knowledgemanagement systems; (3) society needs new frameworks and models to explain the practices and future requirements of knowledge-based firms and organizations; and (4) because of the poor state of knowledge about knowledge management, it is important at this stage to generate new ideas and frameworks rather than focus on the rigorous empirical testing of hypotheses. Many international authors present their insights into organizational knowledge and innovation in the book.
