Letter to the Editor Recent cancer history and its impact on cardiovascular outcomes and mortality after an incident ischemic stroke ☆ Dear Editor, Akyea and colleagues showed an association between a recent cancer history and decreased cardiovascular outcomes among patients after ischemic stroke [1], which has rarely been investigated. While the study results are interesting, we would like to discuss several issues in this research-mainly self-selection bias. Although there is a possibility that patients with a recent history of cancer were simply less likely to develop cardiovascular events, the authors failed to consider the potential effects of cancer survivor-specific behaviors. For example, patients with a cancer history typically visit medical facilities more frequently for treatment, anxiety, or follow-up appointments, resulting in more consultations than those without [2-5]. Furthermore, cancer survivors tend to show greater attentiveness to their health . Therefore, the findings of this study may result from behavioral changes and subsequent preventive measures among cancer survivors.
