The heart is a muscular pump about the size of a fist that circulates blood through the body. It has four chambers separated by valves that allow blood to flow in one direction only. The two upper chambers are the atria and the two lower chambers are the ventricles. Blood cycles from the body to the right atrium, then to the right ventricle which pumps it to the lungs.
