About this document
Sunflower Heliotropism Explained by Richard A. Salasalan is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Sunflowers follow the sun from east to west during the day by turning their heads. At night, young sunflowers reorient themselves to face east in anticipation of the sunrise. This behavior, called heliotropism or solar tracking, allows sunflowers to intercept more sunlight and increases their growth and reproduction. Sunflowers are named for this ability, as their scientific name Helianthus comes from the Greek words for "sun" and "flower".
