The Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) and Upper Explosive Limit (UEL) define the minimum and maximum concentration of a combustible gas or vapor that can burn or explode in air. Below the LEL, the mixture is too lean to burn, while above the UEL it is too rich. The range between the LEL and UEL is known as the flammable range. The table lists the LEL and UEL values for numerous common gases and vapors, such as methane (LEL 5%, UEL 17%), acetone (LEL 2.6%, UEL 13%), and benzene (LEL 1.3%, UEL 7.9%).
