What is The Use of Crop Residues for Biofuel Production about?

feedstock to produce bioenergy have been gaining importance [4]. Although energy crops and food waste are used for producing biofuels such as biogas in some countries [5], waste crop residues have been recognized as a potential cellulosic feedstock and the largest source of biomass. They can be utilized to produce biofuels and contribute to future energy security while not being in competition with food production for human consumption [6]. This chapter comprises the published research work regarding the types, composition, and applications of crop residues in particular for biofuel production. The review also focuses on various pretreatment and processing options that can be applied to crop residues to convert them into useful biofuels in a feasible and viable manner to meet growing energy demand. Utilizing these crop residues to produce biofuels, for example, the thermochemical conversion routes for production of heat, power, and transportation fuel from biomass, include combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, digestion, fermentation, extraction, etc. A techno-economic analysis of producing biofuels utilizing crop residues is presented from the literature. Moreover, this chapter con
