What is Ukuthwala: Cultural Abuse of Girls about?

Ukuthwala is a harmful cultural practice where young girls are abducted and forced into marriage with older men, often resulting in sexual abuse and pregnancy. Parents often condone this practice due to cultural beliefs and economic reasons, prioritizing tradition over the well-being of their daughters. The document argues that when customary law conflicts with constitutional rights, such practices should be declared illegal.
