Two flavonoids, rutin and quercetin, were isolated from the aquatic fern Azolla microphylla. Thin layer chromatography, preparative thin layer chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques were used to isolate and characterize the structures of the flavonoids.
