What is Lambda Phage: Genetic Switch Mechanisms about?

Lambda bacteriophage can infect E. coli bacteria and exists in two pathways - lysogenic or lytic. In the lysogenic pathway, the phage DNA integrates into the bacterial chromosome where it remains dormant as a prophage. In the lytic pathway, the phage DNA replicates rapidly within the cell, producing new virus particles that eventually cause cell lysis. A switch between these pathways is regulated by competing proteins C1 and Cro which control transcription of phage genes.
