What is 1978 Amritsar Massacre: Shaheedi Legacy about?
On April 13, 1978 in Amritsar, Bhai Fauja Singh and twelve other Sikhs were killed after confronting a procession by the Nirankari sect who were publicly insulting Sikh teachings and figures. The Sikhs gathered peacefully to protest the insults but were brutally attacked by thousands of armed Nirankaris while police fired on the Sikhs as well, killing all thirteen. Their sacrifice awakened the Sikh nation and strengthened determination to confront oppression and discrimination against Sikhs in India.
