Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are complications of healthcare and are linked to high morbidity and mortality. Between 2008-2014, there was a 50% decrease in central line-associated bloodstream infections and a 36% decrease in healthcare-associated invasive MRSA. Additionally, surgical site infections decreased 17% and hospital-onset C. difficile infections decreased 8% between 2011-2014. While progress has been made, more work remains as HAIs continue to burden the healthcare system.
