## Anaemia, abdominal pain and failure of therapy: 4 case reports In a prospective, longitudinal, modified cohort event monitoring study (NCT02817919), four patients [two girls, 20-month-old and 22-month-old, and a 42-year-old woman; age and sex not stated for one patient] were described, who developed fatal anaemia (two girls), abdominal pain (one woman) or anaemia and had failure of therapy (one patient) during treatment with artesunate for malaria [dosages, routes and durations of treatment to reactions onsets not stated; not all outcomes stated]. The patients, who had malaria, started receiving treatment with artesunate injection. Two girls developed severe anaemia as serious adverse events (SAEs) associated with artesunate injection and died, and one woman developed severe abdominal pain as SAE associated with artesunate injection. The remaining one patient, who had sickle cell disease, experienced failure of treatment with artesunate injection, and developed severe anaemia as SAE associated with artesunate injection.
