Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa by percussionist Shawn Crahan and bassist Paul Gray. The band grew to include nine core members who were known for their attention-grabbing image and energetic live shows. Slipknot found success with their self-titled debut album in 1999 and follow up album Iowa in 2001, which increased their popularity. They have since released four studio albums and several live albums and DVDs.
