Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. There are four main types: acute myeloid leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Acute leukemia progresses rapidly with immature cells, while chronic leukemia progresses slowly with more mature cells. Knowing the subtype is important for determining treatment.
