T200 is a timer used for retransmission of messages over the LAPD data link layer. It is started when a message is transmitted and reset if an acknowledgment is received within the timer value, usually 200-1200ms. If acknowledgment is not received after N200 retransmissions, the data link is considered failed and must be reestablished. During handover, data link failure between the MS and target BTS can cause handover failure, resulting in return to the old channel or call drop.
