What is Body Image Discrepancy and Depression in Adolescents about?

This study investigates the relationship between body image self-discrepancy and depressive symptoms in 556 early adolescents. Findings indicate that depressive symptoms are more prevalent when adolescents perceive their actual body as larger than their ideal body and when there is a greater degree of discrepancy between the two. The results suggest that body image self-discrepancy may serve as a risk factor for depressive symptoms in this age group.
