What is Global Problems and World Order about?
This book argues that world order is not a single idea. Instead, world order is best understood through the normative lens of contending, often mutually-exclusive ideologies which arise from distinct and competing perspectives. The book identifies three core models of world order: liberal, socialist, and realist. These models are defined and surveyed in terms of how they define global economic and security issues. The book concludes that these models reveal the basic pattern of dispute underlying debates about world order. One weakness of the book is that the prospect for dialogue amongst the competing perspectives is dismissed a priori as being out of reach, thus foreclosing any possibility of a larger synthesis for the study of world order.
