This study compared the results of stool reducing sugar and stool pH screening tests to tissue disaccharidase activity assays in 159 pediatric patients. The screening tests had low sensitivity (9-28%) for detecting disaccharidase deficiencies identified by the tissue assays. Specificities were moderate (74-81%).
