What is RanBP1 about?

Regulated Ran-binding protein 1 (RanBP1) activity is required for proper mitosis in mammalian cells. RanBP1 protein levels increase from S phase to metaphase and peak in metaphase, then abruptly decline in late telophase. Overexpression of RanBP1 throughout the cell cycle causes abnormal mitoses with severe defects in spindle polarization. Microinjection of an anti-RanBP1 antibody into mitotic cells induces mitotic delay and abnormal nuclear division, reflecting an abnormal stabilization of the mitotic spin
