What is Identifier Distribution in Scholarly Publishing about?

This study analyzed the coverage and distribution of identifiers for articles in the field of quantitative biology using arXiv, Mendeley, and CrossRef as data sources. The results show that DOIs had better findability on Mendeley than arXiv IDs. When analyzing the DOI registrants, most were major publishers, indicating that DOIs are more common for published rather than preprint articles. Additionally, coverage of articles on Mendeley decreased more recently, suggesting a time lag before articles are added
