The lacrimal apparatus is responsible for tear formation and transport, consisting of the lacrimal gland, conjunctival sac, lacrimal puncta, canaliculi, sac, and nasolacrimal duct. The lacrimal gland secretes tears that moisten and lubricate the eye, while tears flow through the canaliculi to the lacrimal sac and then to the nasal cavity via the nasolacrimal duct. The system is supplied by the lacrimal artery and drains into the ophthalmic vein, with lymphatic drainage joining that of the conjunctiva.
