Banana leaves, or "lukong", can be used as an alternative to plastic seedling trays for seedling production. A seedling cell can be made using lukong placed in a used styrofoam box. The sowing medium should be a mixture of well-decomposed manure or vermicast, carbonized rice hull, and garden soil. Using lukong has advantages such as being locally available, eco-friendly, allowing for uniform seedlings, and being cheap and easy to use compared to plastic trays.
