## Key Points ## Question Are there differences in the association of serum urate levels with consumption of alcohol, including Japanese traditional beverages, when intake is standardized for ethanol content? ## Findings In this cross-sectional study using medical checkup data from 78 153 Japanese participants, differences were observed in the association of serum urate levels with alcohol consumption even after ethanol content was standardized. Consumption of beer and wine was associated with high and moderate increases in serum urate levels, respectively; in contrast, sake was associated with a modest increase in serum urate levels. ## Meaning The results of this study suggest that alcoholic beverage type, in addition to ethanol content, should be considered as a contributing factor to high serum urate levels.
