Mimicry encourages prosocial behavior. This study tested how mimicry affects helping behavior towards others in a natural setting. Participants in a busy street were approached and either mimicked verbally, verbally and nonverbally, or not mimicked when asking for directions. They were then approached by a second person asking for money. Those who had been mimicked were more likely to help and give more money, suggesting mimicry leads to a general inclination towards prosocial behavior even towards stranger
